Basement Gallery

When I bought the house, the basement was the most appalling place.  At one time, I'm guessing the 1970's, someone attempted to live down there.  Walls were built, a bathroom with shower installed.  The toilet had a 2" waste pipe; When a plumber saw this he laughed and shook his head.  The shower had long ago been disconnected.  I spent a good two weeks down there in the autumn of 2005 knocking out walls and hauling load after load of crap out.  During heavy rains, the water seeped in further rotting what was down there, carpet on the concrete floors, 2x4's, you name it.  At some point in the distant past, the sewer backed up and there was an area covered with dried up waste and toilet paper.  I dumped about eight gallons of bleach on this area, let it dry out for about two weeks and then scraped all of it up with a shovel and disposed of it, I know, yuck!  The difference was amazing after getting it all cleaned up.  I was so proud of myself.  The basement in this house is 1,300 sqft.  That's a big basement and now it's almost empty.
