I don't know anything about Pex and should probably take time to learn a little. I really hate plumbing period. It's tricky and when something goes wrong, there is always damage from it. Thank you for your post :)

Hi,

Have you heard of Pex tubing? You can get it just about anywhere. It comes in red, blue or white. I believe white is for drinking for what ever reason, although I think that they are all good for normal use. The colors are basically so you can determine what is hot/cold or dedicated for a specific use. I re-plumbed my 1rst floor bath room with it in 2007 and have never looked back.
There are a few different ways to connect Pex. The system that I use and am hooked on is called Shark bite. The way you connect Shark bite is so simple, that you can't believe that there isn't more to it. Basically, Shark bite is a brass connector with internal components that lock and hold your pipe in place. You can use a cheep simple tool to also disconnect the fitting from the pipe.
One of the many things that impresses me about this system is that you can also connect Pex with copper because they are the same size. It is Important that you mark the end of your pipe, one inch from the cut with a sharpie, because the pipe has to slide into the fitting, a proper one inch distance. You can cut Pex with a pipe cutter or a pipe slicing tool.
The Shark bite connectors are very expensive. The Pex tubing is much less than copper, so there is sort of an even pay off, however the time saved in labor is tremendous!
FYI, You can get Shark bite fittings from Casler's or Home Depot. Please try this out some time, I know you won't be disappointed. I hope this helps.

Hi Folksy Lady,

I love your web-site/blog. Esp. the photos of historic/vintage buildings and houses.

I live in Jackson (Essex Heights) part of the year and in Paradise Valley, AZ part of the year. Hoping to move to Jackson full-time in a year or so.

Jackson has so much going for it; the great parks, Ella Sharp Museum, Cascades, Stonewall Rd., the lakes and wineries, festivals, Daryl's Downtown, Hinkley Donuts (yum), the downtown library - gorgeous and a lot more.

Wish more people would restore the historic and vintage houses that make up the town. They are Jackson's greatest treasures.

Thank you again for such a great web-site.

Steampunk is WAY cool!! I've been a fan of "steampunk" since before the term was probably coined. The Wild West was very steampunk and was my favorite show as a kid.
